Biography

David Rovics grew up in a family of classical musicians in Wilton, Connecticut, and became a fan of populist regimes early on. By the early 90's he was a full-time busker in the Boston subways and by the mid-90's he was traveling the world as a professional flat-picking rabble-rouser. These days David lives with his family in Portland, Oregon and tours regularly on four continents, playing for audiences large and small at cafes, pubs, universities, churches, union halls and protest rallies. He has shared the stage with a veritable of who's who of the left in two dozen countries, and has had his music featured on Democracy Now!, BBC, Al-Jazeera and other networks. His essays are published regularly on CounterPunch elsewhere, and the 200+ songs he makes available for free on the web have been downloaded more than a million times. Most importantly, he's really good. He will make you laugh, he will make you cry, he will make the revolution irresistible.

Matty Woods will be joining Nautilus Sound at Coledale Markets tomorrow, Sunday 25 April Anzac Day.

Nautilus Sound will be pumping out the level vibes from 9am til 3pm. Matty Woods will be coming down to perform some live reggae, dub around lunchtime.

We will commemorating Anzac Day with a call for peace, justice and equal rights.

Next on stage was the Ras Gong Guerrillas who appear to have a strong local following with a small yet enthusiastic crowd dancing to the reggae riddims. The band had even the most uptight patrons tapping their feet. With a musical vibe that was relaxed yet upbeat (yes you read that right!) they gave the crowd the perfect warm up for what was to come. - University of Wollongong Unibar

Next up on unibar stage were fellow Wollongong outfit, Ras Gong Guerrillas. These reggae masters soon had the entire crowd dancing up a storm to their unique form of roots music that would not be out of place at Woodford or Byron. Matty is currently developing an online radio program devoted to reggae music.

The idea sprung forth a few weeks back after chatting with his greengrocer and upon being quizzed about reggae music found that the wells of information surrounding the subject were very deep. Ultimately an avenue for the sharing of that knowledge within a musical format and creative expression needed to be established.

Henceforth Ras Gong Guerrilla Radio.

Ras Gong Guerrilla Radio will be launched on 28 February 2010. It will be available from the website under construction and through links at Matty's web pages. It will be a 1hr - 1hr 45min program consisting of a highly entertaining look at reggae, a great selector playlist, all for download and streaming. It will be featuring special guests and unique intimate performances.

Matty will be the host and coordinator for a Clean Up Australia Day event in Stanwell Park.

Reggae Picnic - Clean Up Australia Day

The plan for the day is:

We'll all meet at the Surf Lifesavers Club at Stanwell Park Beach. Clean up from 10:00-12:00. After the clean up we'll be meeting in Baird Park near the beach kiosk where there will be a live reggae show from 12:00-2:00pm. The main act is local reggae musician Matty Woods (www.mattywoods.com) and will feature other amazing local artists. People who have helped with the clean up can watch the show for free.
